Sacred Gift brings $285 payout

A disappointing seventh to MAJOR KING in a Class 3 - 1200m sprint a month ago, SACRED GIFT took advantage of a huge drop in the weights to score an upset win over the former in the Class 2 - 1200m handicap at Kranji here today.

The Zoustar gelding has not tasted success since bagging a double in Class 2 and Kranji Stakes A early last year but recorded some good placings in the interim.

The eight-year-old was twice unplaced behind MAJOR KING in the last two months, but the tables were turned today.

Settling off the pace early in sixth spot in the eight-horse field, SACRED GIFT came through in the final 100m to race last the pacemaker ILLUSTRIOUS who was still nicely clear of the field 200m out.

The rest of the field made a late bid to make it a blanket finish, with just two lengths separating the eight runners at the line.

SACRED GIFT, placed in two runs in New Zealand, paid $285 for his win, his seventh in 43 starts in Singapore.

Meanwhile, trainer Jason Ong saddled four winners to stretch his lead at the top of the table to six wins.

Ong had back-to-back wins with NATURE CHIEF and PACIFIC MASTER. Later in the afternoon, he saddled TOP FIELD to victory before winding up the day with FIGHTING HERO.
