Golden King makes
amends in style

GOLDEN KING surprised quite a few
when he finished second to TELLER in the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor over
2000m at Sungei Besi last December.
Only two starts prior, the New Zealand gelding had won a Class 4 races over
1600m and it was a big leap for the four-year-old to tackle the cream of the
country's stayers in the Piala Emas.
GOLDEN KING proved that his second-place performance in the big race was no
fluke when he came out next to win over 1400m in Class 3 one month later.
GOLDEN KING lost some marks when, installed the favourite, he finished a
tame fourth in a combined Class 3 and 4 race over 1700m last time out.
But the son of Savabeel quickly bounced back here today when he came from
midfield to win the Banded 51-74 event over 1400m, thanks to
a superb ride by Vitor Espindola.
It's the third win in nine starts for GOLDEN KING who raced for two seasons
in New Zealand for a win and one placing in 13 starts.
