Gutsy win by Lim's Kosciuszko in Gold Cup

Sheer class brought LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO home first in the 2023 Singapore Gold Cup, his first win over 2000m and his seventh Group 1 win in Singapore.

The Australian gelding carried topweight of 58kg and gave away 7kg to DREAM ALLIANCE who just failed to topple him by a short head.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO will go down in history as one of the all-time greats and certainly the most versatile. He won the Lion City Cup (1200m) twice, Raffles Cup (1600) twice, the Kranji Mile (1600m) and the Singapore Derby (1800m) last year.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO, ridden by Marc Lerner in a race for the first time, had also to overcome the widest barrier (16) to record his 17th win overall in 21 starts.

"It was amazing! What can I say?" said trainer Dan Meagher.

"I can train him (LLIM’S KOSCIUSZKO) to be fit, to be sound, to be happy, but I can’t train him to be tough.

"When it’s all said and done, that’s what won him the race today. He jumped from gate 16, carried the top weight and had every right to get beat in that final furlong.

"But he just toughed out the finish and that’s what makes champion horses."

"The horse! Just the horse! He is a superstar!" said Lerner. "It’s a massive thrill for me."
