Lim's Kosciuszko breaks record in Kranji Mile

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO scored a record-breaking win in the Kranji Mile at Kranji here today, erasing the bitter memory of his worst-ever performance in Singapore in the same race 12 months earlier.

The Kermadec gelding led into the straight last year but faded to finish 10th to stablemate LIM'S LIGHTNING who set a new course record time of 1min 33.25secs.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO went on to win the Singapore Derby and Lion City Cup to be named the 2022 Singapore Horse Of The Year.

The Australian gelding trailed home last in the Hong Kong Sprint but is unbeaten on his return, winning the Merlion Trophy and Raffles Cup and now the Kranji Mile.

Jockey Wong Chin Chuen settled LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO a handy fifth behind pacemaker FAME STAR and cleverly switched the gelding out at the home turn to range alongside KATAK who had taken over the lead at the 400m.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO surged to the front in a matter of strides to quickly break away. CYCLONE and MR MALEK were flashing home in the closing stages but the leader was home and dry, winning by 1 1/4 lengths.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO covered the journey in 1min 32.81secs, shaving 0.4 second off last year's mark.

"He’s a privilege and pleasure to train," said trainer Dan Meagher. "I’m very lucky to have him. He’s a super horse, did everything we asked him to do and basically trained himself. We just had to point him in the right direction."

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO has now won 14 of his 17 starts.
