Lim's Kosciuszko wins second Raffles Cup

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO won an unprecedented second Raffles Cup in the same year when he won the Singapore Group 1 event in near record time at Kranji here today.

Due to a schedule change, the Raffles Cup was not staged last year which meant that the premier 1600m race was run twice this year.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO coasted to a two-and-a-half length win in March and went on to captured the Kranji Mile in May and the Lion City Cup (1200m) last month as well.

Partnered by Wong Chin Chuen again, the Australian gelding won just as easily this time although the margin was one and a quarter lengths.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO had to bid his time to switch out from the heels of KATAK at the top of the straight. The winning time of 1 min 33.81secs was just 0.2 second outside the short course record set by SUPER NINETYSEVEN in 2013.

"Today, you saw the way he went was as good as he has ever did," said Wong.

"This horse knows what to do when he comes into the straight. When we get him out to daylight, he knows when best to go.

"Today, I just rode a bit more patiently because if I hit the front too soon, he could start to ease up."


LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO has now won 16 times in 19 starts in Singapore.

Trainer Dan Meagher has now won the Cup three times, following LIM'S LIGHTNING in 2021 and LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO earlier this year, matching his father John's treble (MAYO'S MUSIC in 2004, LIM'S CLASSIC in 2006 and LIM'S OBJECTIVE in 2007).
