It was success at his first try for
jockey-turned-trainer William Looi when his first runner ARION SUCCESS
romped to an easy win in a Class 4 - 1100m sprint at Sungei Besi here today.
Looi was granted his A licence last week after serving as
assistant to Leong Poh Keong.
ARION SUCCESS is one of the horses who moved to his yards
but the Australian gelding has not raced for nearly 15 months since ending
his Singapore campaign with three wins in 18 starts at Kranji.
Still, the six-year-old was installed favourite in his
first Malaysian start and did not disappoint.
Partnered by Larcio De Souza, ARION SUCCESS made all the
running and won as he liked by two and a half lengths.
"It's a load off my shoulders
— saddling my first winner," said Looi.
"This horse has not raced for 463
days and tend to be fractious in the barriers. So I would like to thank all
my staff for the hard work. He (ARION SUCCESS) will turn out to be a very
good horse.
"I would like also to thank the MRA
for the licence and the Chairman and committee members of the Perak Turf
Club for granting me the stables."
