shines in Steward's Cup

After playing bridesmaid to SUPER
SALUTE in his last two starts over 1400m, GOLDEN MONKEY turned the tables on
the former when the pair met in the Steward's Cup over 1600m at Kranji here
today.
After winning the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy and Group 3 Silver Bowl to
stretch his winning run to seven, SUPER SALUTE was the overwhelming
favourite to take out the Group 2 today.
SUPER SALUTE was given every chance by Manoel Nunes, hitting the front at
the 300m.
But first-time visiting jockey Chad Schofield rode a well-judged race on
GOLDEN MONEY, bringing the Star Turn gelding from well back early to win
drawing away by two lengths.
"It is a big thrill and lovely to get the call up," said
Schofield, a multiple Group 1 winning jockey in Australia and Hong Kong.
"Although I’ve done a lot of riding in Asia, I’ve never
ridden in Singapore. It’s my first meeting today and it was nice to get the
opportunity to ride a horse like GOLDEN MONKEY. He’s got a lot of quality
and we saw that today.
"He got a little bit further back than anticipated but we
knew he had the best turn of foot in the race."
GOLDEN MONKEY, on board in four of his five runs in
Australia, has now won five times in 12 starts in Singapore.
