Ten-year-old PEER GYNT created a
big upset when he defeated two big-name opponents to win the Enrich Stakes A
event over 1200m here today.
Since moving over from Singapore, where won two races in more than four
seasons, the New Zealand gelding has picked up one win in Class 5 and five
in Class 4 over the past three years, his last win achieved two starts back
last August.
PEET GYNT is resuming after nearly four months on the sidelines today and
took advantage of a huge pull in the weights to record his biggest career
win.
GRAND CROSS, shouldering a punishing 60.5kg, as usual took up the
front-running role. PEEY GYNT sat second, one out from the fence. He ranged
alongside the leader at the 300m.
From the 150m, PEEY GYNT, who had just 53kg on his back, began to kick clear
and pull away from GRAND CROSS. He went on to win by 3 1/4 lengths. XENA, who
was second last in the early running, flashed home to beat GRAND CROSS to
take second placing. PEER GYNT paid RM127 for a win.
