proves just that in Ipoh

A step-up in class proved no
problem for former Singapore galloper STRONG N POWERFUL when he beat some well-credentialled
runners in the Enrich Stakes A event over 1200m here today.
The Australian gelding came over to Malaysia in the middle of last year after
scoring four wins at Kranji, including a hattrick in late 2019 and early
2020.
After three runs under trainer Ooi Chin Chin for a second and a fourth, the
six-year-old by Golden Archer was transferred to V Sivan who has now saddled him three times.
Six days ago, STRONG N POWERFUL finished second to runaway winner PERFECT
(by 6 1/4 lengths) in a Class 3 - 14000m handicap at Sungei Besi but Sivan
made a bold love by entering his again today.
STRONG N POWERFUL was up against the likes of GRAND CROSS (19 wins) and
RELAU STAR (11 wins) in this set-weight event. But he proved more than a match
for them.
GRAND CROSS, as usual, took up the role of pacemaker but STRONG N POWERFUL,
ridden by Khaw Choon Kit, tracked him all the way from the start, just a
length away.
The task of carrying 60.5kg on his back soon told on the leader. He was unable to
respond when STRONG N POWERFUL collared him and raced past at the 300m.
STRONG N POWERFUL went on to win
by 1 1/4 lengths despite drifting out in the final 200m.
