What started out as a frustrating
afternoon earlier in the day turned to double delight for jockey Bruno
Queiroz when he bagged a double on EXCEED NATURAL and HURRICANE at Kranji
here today.
Placed twice in seven rides in his debut meeting last Sunday, the Brazilian
jockey was placed in five races, including finding one to beat four times
before he finally broke the duck on EXCEED NATURAL. It was his first winner
in Singapore.
The nine-year-old came from a long way back in the early running to win the
Class 5 - 1600m handicap after winning a similar race early in the season.
The veteran galloper has five wins in 54 starts since making his bow in
2019.
"I'm so happy now," said Queiroz who has won more than 900 races including
14 Group 1 victories. "I have been hungry for a win since the start of the
meeting. After my first win, I was so happy and relieved. I'm looking
forward to more now."
The "more" came soon enough for the two-time champion Brazilian jockey.
Queiroz found one to beat one more time before he was back in the winner's
enclosure with HURRICANE in the final event, the Class 4 - 1200m sprint.
The four-year-old was out of the gates in a flash and made all the running
to win by three and a half lengths. It was his third win 12 starts.
