Former jockey Richard Lim enjoyed his best meeting
as a trainer when he saddled five winners at Kranji here today, highlighted
by the return to winning form of SUPER SALUTE.
The son of I Am Invincible reeled off seven consecutive wins from October
last year, including the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy and the Group 3 Silver
Bowl.
He then finished second to Group 2 GOLDEK MONKEY in the Stewards' Cup and
the Group 1 Singapore Derby.
SUPER SALUTE was placed in his last three runs before taking out the Class 1
- 1400m handicap today.
Lim started the afternoon on a winning note, saddling SMART GAMBIT to his
maiden win in six starts.
CROWN DANCING, who won once and was placed twice in nine starts in
Australia, broke through for his first win in 27 starts in Singapore and was
Lim's second winner of the day.
TAKHI scored his third career win and his first for Lim later and the
trainer wound up the afternoon with SUPER SALUTE and GROOVY, the latter with
his third win in his last five starts.
"I’m over the moon," said Lim who was granted a licence
at the beginning of last year.
"I rode five winners back in Ipoh when I was an
apprentice, but it is very satisfying to do so as a trainer.
"I think my best (as a trainer) before today was three,
so five is a big achievement for my stable.
"And the win of SUPER SALUTE was extra special as it was
the first time he has won for me. A relief really as he was in good form but
hadn’t won.
"We gave him a freshen up for this
race and everything panned out very well in running. I was a bit worried
when he was in traffic but once clear, I knew he would win."
