Twice Group 3 placed in Australia,
SUPER SALUTE is demonstrating his class in Singapore with a fifth
consecutive win in the Class 2 - 1400m handicap at Kranji here today.
With Manoel Nunes back in the saddle, the I Am Invincible gelding fought his
way to a neck-win over last-start winner and fellow four-year-old SILENT IS
GOLD.
The Brazilian jockey missed the gelding's last win when he could not take
the ride because of the handicapped weight. He has now won four times on
SUPER SALUTE who was purchased by trainer Jason Lim for A$110,000 after he
has raced for two seasons in Australia.
At two, SUPER SALUTE was placed twice in six runs including a second placing
in the Group 3 Breeders' Plate at Randwick.
Turning three, the gelding had another nine outings, winning a maiden race
and was placed twice including a third-place finish in the Group 3 Up &
Coming Stakes at Kembla Grange.
"It was an amazing job by both the horse and the jockey,"
said Lim. "Manoel had him box-seated but it’s not easy to peel out on the
‘D’ Course and to chase down a good horse like Silent Is Gold.
"To be honest, I thought we would run second at the 200m,
but when I saw him (Super Salute) prick his ears, I knew we would get the
leader.
"I was very concerned about his barrier manners and
whether or not he could see out the 1400m, but he was very calm before the
race.
"Very happy that we have ticked the 1400m box."
SUPER SALUTE will now be set for the EW Barker Trophy in
three weeks' time and the Silver Bowl in June, both races run over 1400m.
