SUPER SALUTE stretched his winning
run to seven consecutive win when he took out the Group 3 Silver Bowl, the
first leg of the Four-Year-Old Challenge, over at Kranji here today.
After accounting for horses in open company in the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy
last April, the son of I Am Invincible was always to be good for his seven
rivals in the 1400m contest.
SUPER SALUTE had beaten fellow four-year-old GOLDEN MONKEY into second place
in the EW Barker Trophy and was the raging odds-on favourite to win again.
Ridden by Manoel Nunes, the result was never in doubt as SUPER SALUTE
settled second behind pacemaker INVINCIBLE TYCOON, then shot to lead at the
300m and opened up in fine style to win by 1 1/4 lengths from GOLDEN MONKEY.
INVINCIBLE TYCOON held on for third.
SUPER SALUTE was placed twice in six starts as a juvenile in Sydney,
finishing second in the Group 3 Breeders' Plate at Randwick. He had another
nine starts for a win and two placings, including the Group 3 Up & Coming
Stakes at Kembla Grange.
After finishing fourth in his Singapore debut, SUPER SALUTE has simply been
unbeatable.
"He’s going the right way," said Nunes. "He’s improved
race-by-race and he’s getting more mature now and he settled better. He’s a
lovely horse and has a bright future here.
"You can put him anywhere. Today I had to jump clean in a
small field. I had a good barrier (four) and I rode him like he is the best
horse in the race. I just put him there (leaders flank) to get out of
trouble but it doesn’t really matter because you can ride him anywhere.
"Definitely he’s getting better race-by-race. Every race
much better so I’m excited to see how he’s going to the next one."
