Rookie apprentice Nik Shahronnizam took advantage
of the absence of many top riders to notch his career-first win here today,
when only two races were staged. Shahronnizam came close winning four times in his first season when he found one to beat four times. With the experience of 29 races behind him, Shahronnizam showed a fine piece of horsemanship to score on MYSTICAL STAR in the Class 5 - 1600m handicap. The apprentice settled the Fastnet Rock gelding last early on the rails in the six-horse field, bidding for his move. Making the turn into the straight, he cleverly moved MYSTICAL STAR to be second at the top of the straight. The 10-year-old collared the leader BIG MONKEY at the 200m and raced away to win by three lengths. It was his eighth win in 109 starts, his second for Bonny Ng since after moving to the trainer last July. Jockey Narendran Rajendran also enjoyed a welcome change of luck when he took the other race on PARISBAS. Narendran, who started riding in 2020, notched his first win that year and added just one more success last year. Today's win was his first in 27 rides this season. As for PARISBAS, the Pentire gelding had a win in Australia before moving to Singapore, then Malaysia. It his was first local win in the local circuit in 64 starts. |
