Somar scores shock comeback win

SOMAR put behind five disappointing recent runs to register a runaway win in the Class 4 - 1200m handicap here today.

The El Roca gelding has already won six races since making his debut in 2019, including five in Class 4.

He was promoted after his last win last August and did well to run second in a Class 3 - 1400m event a month later. But six-year-old has been disappointing since, finishing last in his last start four weeks ago.

Contrary to his last three runs where he settled in the rear, SOMAR was well with the pace from the start today, eventually settled in third spot. On entering the straight, he went after the two leaders but drifted out very wide.

Nevertheless, he was simply too good for the rest of the field, winning by 4 3/4 lengths. Given his recent results, SOMAR started out a long odds and paid RM99.

Meanwhile, jockey How Yang landed his first winner since making a comeback towards the end of last year when successful on LAGO DE COMO in a Class 5 - 1600m handicap.

After serving a disqualification, Perak Turf Club is the only club which has granted him a licence thus far and the senor rider is making most of his opporunities.

LAGO DE COMO was his first ride of the season. Unsuccessful in eight runs in Singapore, the Argentinean gelding had now picked up three wins in 15 starts in Malaysia.
