Coin Toss lands the money in 3YO Classic

   COIN TOSS turned in a near record run to claim the S$150,000 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic over 1400m at Kranji here today.

The Australian gelding had finished second to TAKANINI in a Class 4 - 1400m handicap three weeks ago and it was his stablemate who started favourite in today's Group 2 event.

But COIN TOSS, who had to come from a long way back as usual, found a gap between runners in the final 200m to grab the lead 80m out to win by 1 1/4 lengths.

COIN TOSS covered the journey in 1 min. 20.84secs, just 0.36 second outside of course record set by GOLD STAR last year.

Bought for A$175,000 as a yearling, he has now won thrice in eight starts.

"I think Daniel (Moor) rode a great race," said trainer Michael Clements.

"He’s been a horse with a lot of potential all along and it was great for him to get it right on the day. A lot of his early racing was on the Polytrack, but that was by circumstance, not by choice."

Moor landed his first win in his current stint, which started last week, earlier in the afternoon on FEBRUARY.

"He’s won really well today," said Moor. "We overcame a little bit of interference over the back there. He lost probably a length and a half or two lengths but for a young horse, he recovered well and won pretty soft in the finish."
