NOVEMBER HOME-BASED MEETING
Saturday,  21 November 2015

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5 - 1400M

MYSTIC WARRIOR (H Bukhari) jumped with its head in the air and was slow to begin.

GOLD STAR PRINCESS (App SU Lim) reared upon jumping and was slow to begin.

In the early stages, AMONGST THE STARS (App P Deneskumar) had a tendency to over-race and as a result, clipped the heels of ALACARTE (App KP Lim) and blundered for a short distance.

SUPER WINE (J Low) raced wide throughout the event.

The Stewards questioned Trainer SB Tan and App KC Wong as to the disappointing performance of TARAMIS which was supported in today’s race. App KC Wong explained that he was attempting to ride to midfield position and this was confirmed by the Stewards from the Trainer’s Instruction Form, however, had no early pace and was caught racing 3-wide throughout the entire event. He stated that he placed the gelding under pressure at the 800m but it failed to respond to his riding, and was one-paced.

Trainer SB Tan explained that TARAMIS had worked extremely throughout the week and expected a forward showing. He also stated that he could not offer any explanation into the disappointing performance of TARAMIS. Their explanations were noted for future reference. A post-race veterinary examination of TARAMIS revealed that it was lame off-hind and had sustained a cut to the near-hind coronet. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000m/vet test before being declared to race again.

The Stewards questioned Trainer D Murphy and Jockey J Low as to the disappointing performance of SUPER WINE in today’s race. Jockey J Low explained that after jumping extremely well from Barrier 12, he was happy to try to gain a forward position, however, was caught racing 5-wide throughout and was unable to get closer to the rail to try and get cover. He was disappointed with the performance of the horse. He stated that he placed the gelding under pressure from the 600m but it failed to respond to his riding. The Stewards informed Jockey J Low in the strongest term that they would expect a jockey of his caliber to have more initiative than what he had done on this occasion.

Trainer D Murphy agreed with the jockey’s explanation and stated that in hindsight, it may have been better off to restrain and settle the horse and gain a position closer to the rails. Their explanations were noted for future reference. A post-race veterinary examination of SUPER WINE revealed no significant finding. SUPER WINE, which was beaten 25 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000m/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5 - 1400M

JET COSMO (App W Faizal) reared as the start was affected and was slow to begin.

Upon jumping, BINT WARD (J De Souza) shifted inwards resulting in an interference to REMARKABLE (App T Krisna) and TURBO (Lou Ho).

CALLMESOON (L Sofhan) had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages, and got its head up on several occasions.

Approaching the 1000m mark, JET COSMO was racing fiercely and had to be steadied off the heels of DARMORE (HS Gill) which had shifted in at the point of the corner.

Racing from the 800m to the 600m, FIORELLA had to be eased off the runners in front.

TURBO (Lou Ho) and CALLMESOON both finished wide on the track in the home straight.

Approaching the 400m, COMONBABY shifted outwards resulting in JET COSMO gaining an inside run.

Approaching the 300m, DARMORE was held up for a clear run and shortly after the 200m, had to shift out to gain clear running.

Approaching the 200m, FLY HIGH (App SU Lim) was held up for a clear run behind the tiring BINT WARD and had to shift inwards to gain clear running.

Approaching the 200m, FIORELLA (J Low) shifted out under pressure and had to be eased off the heels of GOLD KIDS (App AK Lim).

Prior to the "All Clear" being given, Trainer L Moy and App W Faizal, the trainer and rider of JET COSMO respectively, viewed the official patrol film of this race. After viewing the film, an objection was lodged by Trainer L Moy, the trainer of JET COSMO, placed second, against COMONBABY (H Bukhari) being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference from about the 350m mark. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was dismissed and the result stood.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey H Bukhari, the rider of COMONBABY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that shortly after entering the straight, by looking to his right hand side, he allowed his horse to shift in causing a slight interference to JET COSMO (App W Faizal) and as a result App W Faizal was momentarily tightened for room.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey H Bukhari’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey H Bukhari’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two Malaysian race days with effect from 30 November 2015 and to expire on 6 December 2015, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (2:40pm).

The Stewards questioned Jockey H Bukhari into the reasons he continuously looked to his right hand side racing from the 600m to the 300m. He explained that in his opinion, there was someone yelling from the right side and he believed he may have been causing interference. The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol film and acting on their own observations, did not believe this was the case, however, strongly advised Jockey H Bukhari that in the opinion of the Stewards that it was unnecessary for him to be looking behind him at this stage and noted his comments for future reference.

BIG GALLANT, which was beaten 22 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000m/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App KC Wong, the rider of AIR STRIKE, in the presence of his acting master, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that in the home straight on 2 occasions, he allowed his horse to shift in when being struck with the whip and caused interference to LADY FREEDOM (M Wepner) which had to be checked on these 2 occasions.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App KC Wong’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two Malaysian race days with effect from 23 November 2015 and to expire on 29 November 2015, both dates inclusive.
