Jockey P Vellaikannu escaped a one-year disqualification and will instead serve a six-month suspension for his ride on SUCCESS WINNER in Ipoh on Jan 13.

Vellaikannu was on Jan 15 charged under MRA Rule 44(8) and disqualified one year.

The Perak Turf Club Racing Stewards heard his appeal today and after considering submissions from Vellaikannu, his counsel and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, and after considering all the evidence, the Racing Stewards decided to substitute the charge with MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

Vellaikannu was found guilty under this rule and he was suspended from riding in races for a period of six months with immediate effect from today and to expire on Oct 26 October, both days inclusive. Vellaikannu’s deposit was refunded.
