Wong fails in appeal, fine of RM40,000 stays

PENANG:  Oct 12, 2010

The Penang Turf Club racing stewards have dismissed trainer Wong Kong Fatt’s appeal against a total fine of RM40,000 after two of his charges returned positive tests recently.

The urine samples of FISHING, who finished fifth to KNIGHT GREG in a Class 5 - 1200m sprint in Penang on Jun 26, and CONSONG, who ran second to DASHING HERO in a Class 4 - 1400m handicap on the same day, returned positive to “3-hydroxy-n-methylmorphinan”, a prohibited substance in terms of MRA rules.

Wong pleaded guilty to two separate charges and was fined RM20,000 on each charge. The horses were also disqualified.

Penang Turf Club racing stewards heard the above appeal today.

After considering submissions from Wong and a member of the stipendiary panel, the racing stewards dismissed the appeals for both FISHING and CONSONG. His deposits were forfeited.
