Jockey Anandan fails in appeal

SINGAPORE:  Sept 20, 2012

The race meeting stewards of Singapore Turf Club today dismissed the appeal of jockey Anandan Subramanian who was earlier charged under MRA Rule 44(8) on Sept 19 for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on BABY FACE in a Class 4, Div 2 - 1200m handicap on July 6.

Anandan was then handed a two-year disqualification and fined a sum of S$50,000.

He was subsequently denied a stay of sentence on lodging an appeal.

The race meeting stewards’ hearing of his appeal was concluded today.

After considering all of the evidence together with submissions from Anandan, his legal counsel and the chairman of the inquiry panel, the race meeting stewards dismissed the appeal. In regards to penalty, the disqualification was reduced to a period of fifteen months with effect from Sept 19 to Dec 18, 2013, both dates inclusive and in addition, his fine was reduced to a sum of S$25,000. His deposit was forfeited.
