Former jockey Loh saddles first winner

KUALA LUMPUR:  Sep 8, 2012

Former top local jockey turned trainer Loh Kin Kuen saddled his first winner when SAPPHIRE STAR (Postponed - Hulda by Theatrical) triumphed in a Class 5 - 1400m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.

Loh took over the training of the New Zealand bred soon after he was granted a licence last April and the gelding had found one to beat twice prior to today's breakthrough.

SAPPHIRE STAR was ridden for the first time by jockey Cheng Han Kok and has proven to a 1400m specialist as all his five wins thus far was been achieved over the distance.

Bought for NZ$67,500 as a yearling, SAPPHIRE STAR failed to impress in seven starts in Singapore before finding success in Malaysia.
