Brazilian jockey
Wanderson
D'Avila, who has been riding successfully in provincial and country tracks
in Queensland, Australia in recent years, quickly made his mark in Malaysia
when he booted home two winners and finished second in his only other ride
here today.
D'Avila had a dream start
to his two-day stint when he booted home TRIPLE ONE D'BEST to win the Free
Spirit 2007 Stakes (Restricted Maiden - 1400m).
The three-year-old finally
broke the duck in his 10th outing after being placed in four of his last five starts to win by
half a length.
D'Avila then timed his run
to perfection when he brought RIGHT TIMING home a head in front of ROCKET
EXPRESS for his second win of the day. The American colt won his second
start last April and is back in form his fifth run from a spell.
Luck wasn't with the other
new face, Chilean jockey Roberto Jose Perez, who found one to beat twice in
four rides. Perez is a familiar face to local racing fans (if only on TV) as
he rode for five seasons in Macau.
