Moon Face returns
with Optimax Cup win

MOON FACE continued his remarkable
resurgence in Malaysia when he returned from a seven-month spell to score a
runaway win in the Optimax Cup for Classes 2 & 3 horses over 1100m at Sungei
Besi here today.
After disappointing in several trials in Singapore and as a result skipping
the races for the whole of 2021, the Argentinean gelding bounced back with a
first-up second here last February.
MOON FACE quickly followed up with a win and a third the following month but
did not see action again until today.
Despite the long layoff, racegoers installed the six-year-old odds-on
favourite in the Optimax Cup sponsored by Optimax Eye Specialist Centre.
MOON FACE never gave his backers any anxious moment. Ridden by Clyde Leck,
he jumped smartly and immediately took charge in front. In the home stretch
he went further and further ahead of the field and ended up 7 1/4 lengths
clear at the line.
"He has always shown a 'ton' of ability," said trainer Simon Dunderdale who
is away buying horses. "A big thanks to the owners for being so patient and
apprentice Clyde Leck for riding him perfectly in the testing wet
conditions."
"The instructions were to lead and draw a few lengths away from the field,"
said Leck. "I did exactly that and in the straight he gave me a lot more."
MOON FACE was one of six winners for Leck who now leads
the jockey's table with 55 winners.
MOON FACE had a win and second in as many starts as a juvenile in Argentina.
After landing in Singapore, he immediately showed his potential with
back-to-back wins in Class 4 but disappointed in two runs in higher classes
after that.
He was shipped over to Dunderdale
late last year after failing to get to the races during the year.
